Random Ramblings of a Neo-Post-Modern Geek (I have no idea what that means)
Fun
w00tstock Chicago
Jun 7th
Last sunday Ginny and I went to w00tstock Chicago at the Park West … it was an incredibly fun time.
W00tstock is the brain child of Wil Wheaton, Paul and Storm, and Adam Savage. It’s billed as “Three hours of geeks and music”.
Sadly, it wasn’t quite as advertised … the show lasted four and a half hours … and was absolutely laugh out loud funny.
They frequently have local guest stars … and this show had Peter Sagel, Bill Amend, and a few other folks.

XC Skiing
Jan 10th
It’s been a very long time since I was on the skis … either lack of good snow, illness, or scheduling problems, have made it hard to get out on the trails.
Today we were able to break that trend … after Ginny was done with church, we went out to Busse Wood Forest Preserve.
With both Ginny and I getting to the health club on a regular basis, we’re in pretty good condition … and it was clearly evident with our skiing. Neither of us got worn out.
It took me a bit of time to get my rhythm back, but once I did … it was pretty good.
The only down side of this outing was the temperature … it was pretty darn cold. Well, that’s kind of to be expected with winter sports … but my thumb got so cold it was hurting.
All in all, we did about 2 hours of skiing … and covered about 5 miles. Not bad for our first time out.
One of these days I want to get back out to Yellowstone in the winter … it’s absolutely beautiful there and next to zero crowds.

Since both Ginny and I are trying to get to the health club more often now … we were thinking about how being a computer geek could be leveraged into a more healthy lifestyle.
Here’s a short list of geeky actions that could be transformed into something healthy …

Putting faces to email addresses.
